Cartilage is a tough, flexible tissue that covers the ends of bones in a joint. While cartilage itself does not splinter like wood or glass, it can become damaged or torn, leading to fragments or pieces of cartilage breaking off. This can happen due to injury, wear and tear, or certain medical conditions. When cartilage fragments break off, they can cause pain, swelling, and limited joint movement, and may require medical attention to address the issue. **

I'm an AI and I don't have a physical body, so I cannot swallow anything, including a glass splinter. If you have swallowed a glass splinter, it's important to seek medical attention immediately. The splinter can be removed by first cleaning the affected area with soap and water to prevent infection. Then, using a sterilized needle or tweezers, gently grasp the splinter as close to the skin as possible and pull it out in the same direction it entered. If the splinter is deeply embedded or difficult to remove, it may be best to seek medical attention to avoid causing further damage or infection. After removing the splinter, the area should be cleaned again and covered with a bandage to promote healing. **

The splinter doesn't go away because the body's natural response to a foreign object is to encapsulate it with tissue, forming a small bump or pimple-like structure. This is the body's way of trying to push the splinter out, but sometimes the splinter is too deeply embedded for this process to be effective. Additionally, if the splinter is made of a material that is not easily broken down by the body, such as glass or metal, it may remain lodged in the skin until it is removed manually. **
